Mixed Chorus (9th) 190221/190222, ELECTIVE For primarily incoming 9th graders, this choir will be split in 2021-2022 via voicings (soprano/alto) (tenor/bass). This choir focuses on building an understanding music literacy, along with focusing on vocal development.
Concert Choir (10th-12th) 190281/190282, ELECTIVE For 10th-12th graders, this choir focuses on Advanced Choral literature, including music that represents the singers in the choir. This choir is an auditioned choir, and students interested simply should reach out to Mr. Gruttemeyer by filling out this microsoft form. There is an honors component available for this choir! These students are highly encouraged to audition for both the All-State Choir, and the OPS All-City choir.
Chamber Singers (10th-12th) 190441/190442, ELECTIVE This is the most advanced choral ensemble offered at South, with a maximum of 16 selected per year. This choir focuses primarily on advanced a cappella music, and is required to audition for the All-State chorus in the Fall. Students with a high level of musical literacy skills and who are up for a challenge are encouraged to audition this spring for the 2021-2022 chamber singers.
H Swing Choir (9th-12th) 190331/190332, PHYSICAL ED The Ambassadors is the Varsity Competitive Show Choir at South, which will be celebrating their 60th year of existence during the 2021-2022 school year. This ensemble receives both a PE credit, and an Honors Credit. Because of the PE credit, you will need to register in the Physical Education section of Infinite Campus. This class meets during the school day, and once a week in the fall on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m,-8:30 p.m. Competitions are in January-March, on Saturdays. Students who are interested in singing, dancing, traveling, and competing will feel right at home in this ensemble. NO PREVIOUS DANCING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED! Auditions will be held at the end of March, with specific information found on the Show Choir page.
Voice Class (10th-12th), ELECTIVE Students interested in taking Private Voice class should email Mr. Gruttemeyer for the course number. This class takes a look at building the solo voice, through the use of Folk/Art Songs, Arias, and some Musical Theater. This class requires weekly lessons and performances for the class.
